Here is the old Bio from 1997:
A Symbolic Division of Love began in the summer of 1996, when Scott and RJ
from the band Structure, wrote a song. Then another, and then a couple more.
But in reality, they believed the songs to be too 'different' from the style
of the band they were in. Thus, the side project was formed.
The name comes from somewhere. But as RJ says 'I want people to think about it'
Figure it out in other words... Scott doesn't really care about the name.
He says it was spit out one night in the car, 'Its just something to call
ourselves.. its just a name...like Joe or Bob, it doesn't mean much,
but for reference purposes and a name becomes U after U've had it for
6 months anyway.'
This side project's influences are many, but there are certain ones which
spell out its nature. One may discover this in the first EP recorded
and mixed almost entirely in Scott's basement. It sounds like it was
recorded in a house, but thats not what the band is going for,
'We want it to be considered an EP, and a demo at that. There are plans
for the full length album in the future, which will be done in a real studio.
But we like rough sounding recordings. I remarked that this EP should be pressed
on vinyl, since it has such a rough flavor and feel.' --Scott
RJ's opinion is basically the same..'I agree, as usual, Scott is God'
Scott had no comment on that issue, but never denied the fact.
'We want the newer albums to sound more professional, but the 1st EP
should sound like it was recorded live, which is what we were going for
on that record. Live sound is important. It was pretty much played
all in one take anyway.' ...Scott
RJ agrees yet again... 'Scott told me just to play the bass on one of the
songs he wrote. He wanted it spontaneous, and so did I, frankly. And may
I say, that it was mostly my idea anyway.'
'Its important to preserve a live sound on a record that U will probably
never play live. RJ probably will tell U it was his idea, dont believe him,
It was both of ours.' ...Scott
If U think that this band is completely insane, well U're probably right.
But the music is not just for madmen. The first LP promises to contain
several ambient tracks as well as more electronic sounding songs.
Along with several acoustic tracks that will begin the album.
2007:
Since the reunion show in Dec of 2006, ASDOL is going to do something big, we cant tell you what it is, but we're sure it involves your two pilots through the mystical abyss that is music, Scott and RJ
And where did this stuff come from?
No comment once again. Perhaps thats what the name has to do with!?
