Band,
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA United States
Amish Driveby was born on a hot summer night in 2001 over a conversation at the Beehive, a local coffee house. Original members Amanda Parsons, Jason Vey, Jeff Hopkins, and Tianyu Ching were sitting around, relatively bored, when Amanda suggested half-jokingly that we put together a band just to have something to do. It seemed like a good idea, but for the fact that both Jason and Jeff were bass players. After a brief discussion, it was decided that Jason, the slightly more advanced player of the two, learn to play lead guitar, and the band was born. The later addition of Mike Vogel on drums completed the lineup and rehearsals began in earnest.
We had no idea what we were getting into.
That original incarnation of the band split up after our first gig, with Jeff moving on to pursue a more serious project, Mike being dissatisfied with the music, and the rest of the band unwilling at the time to put the work into reforming. Eventually, Amanda and Tianyu married and moved to Florida, where they currently reside. Jason paired up with Mike, returning to the bass guitar for a time, and unsuccessfully attempted to put together another project that just never panned out.
In early 2004, Jeff parted ways with his project, and he and Jason decided to take another stab at the Driveby. For simplicity's sake, it was determined that Jason would be the sole guitar for this incarnation, at least in its initial stages, and the hunt began for a new drummer and singer. After a few months of unsuccessful searching, including a vocalist who simply didn't fit the group's vision and direction, we found the answers right under our noses: A friend of Jeff's at work (Greg) happened to be a drummer looking to get back into music, and he approached Jeff looking for a band. Jason's girlfriend Julie turned out to be the vocalist the band was missing, and once again a new version of Amish Driveby came together, with a cohesive vision and mission statement: to bring the fun back to rock n' roll music.
